Yahoo launches sports radio

Internet group Yahoo said Monday it was embarking on sports radio in the U.S., accessible by radio waves and satellite and internet, through a partnership with the owner of the existing network Sporting News radio.

Yahoo said in a statement that Yahoo Sports Radio is based on a network of 180 stations distributed in the United States, and accessible through the Sirius satellite radio.

Specifically, the agreement with the company Gow Texas Broadcasting, whose financial terms were not disclosed, is to rename the Sporting News Radio stations in Yahoo Sports Radio.

"Yahoo Sports Radio will build on our position as number one sports site, "said Ken Fuchs, an official of Yahoo, said in a statement.

"Our partnership with Gow Broadcasting will give us better access to our users and will allow advertisers to have solutions to connect with them regardless of how they consume sports," said Fuchs.

The website Yahoo Sports boasts 50 million unique visitors per month in the U.S., making it the leader in its class.

The action Yahoo lost 0.61% to 13.02 dollars around 16h GMT.
